the faceless subject, confined to their bedroom, uses musbah* as a symbol of a  constant, silent prayer for the large numbers of people lost to the early months of COVID-19.

*musbah are prayer beads often used by Muslims for the tasbih, the recitation of prayers, the dhikr, and to glorify Allah. they are a staple in many men’s day-to-day lives, carried into any “pure” space. they are used constantly throughout the day in silent contemplation, sometimes even used unofficially as a fidget tool for nerves.
