		<description>sadie “sarah” ibrahim is a queer Kuwaiti, Indonesian and black American transdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles / Tongva land. 


With personal essay at the core of their practice, they create music, film, video and visual art that excavate the political through testimony. They utilize many forms—sound sampling, field recordings, photography, collaging, zine-making and digital, super8 and 16mm film—to examine how personal accounts always exemplify the contorted socio-political circumstances in which we live. 


They design sound and score for feature-length works, short films, and installation—from experimental pieces to traditional documentary. They contributed to works screened at and/or funded by Berlin International Film Festival, Venice International Film Critics’ Week, Venice Biennale Architecture, DOKLeipzig, Hubert Bals Fund, Eurimages Award at Les Arcs Film Festival and more.&#38;nbsp;

Amidst a small Indian community in post-Apartheid South Africa—still fraught with violence—Lishana takes care of her dying elderly mother. She turns to photography to grapple with her grief and the lingering tensions of her town. In capturing images and ruminating on the line between life and death, she begins oscillating between the tangible world and the mystical.

“In celebration of Black Music Month, we're diving into the history, purpose and progression of Black music — past and present.In the first episode, A Tribe Called Quest member Ali Shaheed Muhammad and soul music artist Adrian Younge talk the blues — a style of music that bridged the gap between the old and the new, songs of slavery and songs of newfound “freedom,” exploring issues of race, class, gender and image. This episode features guests such as Buddy Guy, Cautious Clay, Malina Moye, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Kirk Fletcher, Twin Shadow, and Raphael Saadiq discussing the blues with some of its history and modern context.
‘If Black music is the soul of America, Jazz music is the fight for our freedom.’ In the second episode of Music is Power — our new series celebrating Black Music Month — hosts Ali Shaheed and Adrian Younge and plus special guests explore Jazz &#38;amp; Soul — music extended from the Blues in response to an absence of freedom and the need to communicate when freedom of speech was forbidden. Interested in its parallels with the fate of the Jaffa oranges, the filmmaker tells her father about her intention to film the last orange grove in Los Angeles. Their disagreement transforms the grove into a space of contemplation on the politics of storytelling in the multi generational experience of Palestine in exile.

A sprawling meditation on the choreography of bodies in Moscow’s urban landscape, Detours depicts a new way of dealing illicit drugs via the Darknet, the layering of the physical and the virtual realities, as well as a poetics, and politics, of space. Taking place in sleepy neighbourhoods, among the concrete walls of high-rises, behind garages and amidst abandoned railroads, the film alternately follows and loses track of Denis, the treasureman who hides stashes of drugs all over the city.

Green Turns Brown is a eulogy to the artist Luchita Hurtado, whose work was discovered at the age of 97 in a storage unit in San Bernardino, California, and immediately gained notoriety during the final years of her life. Shot several months before the artist's passing, the Super 8 film explores Luchita’s oscillation between visibility and invisibility as a female painter mirrored by her observations of duality within the natural world. Green Turns Brown is Hurtado’s final contemplation of what the artist called, "the border between life and death".
